Thousands of people turned out in Skegness on Wednesday for what can only be described as a breathtaking once in a life time event.
The Olympic Torch Relay brought many people out on the streets, from young to old, when the torch arrived on the East Coast.
The Olympic Flame is one of the enduring symbols of the Olympic Games,
representing peace, unity and friendship. As it is carried around the UK
for the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay it will bring the spirit of the
Games to everyone.
Both residents and holiday makers made their way into Skegness to see the Olympic Torch pass through such an iconic and famous town that made every bit of effort to celebrate today.
Torchbearer Halley Starr, 15, brought the torch into Skegness shortly after midday. She was greeted by cheering members of the public that were all thrilled to have such a famous event happen in Skegness.
Suzy from Hundleby, Lincolnshire said: "It has made me emotional watching the torch pass through here.
"This is a once in a life time event and I think people need to realise this. I was at the Beijing Olympics and it is so fantastic to have it on home ground.
"I have been very lucky as one of the torchbearers, Jess from London allowed me to hold the torch whilst having a photo taken. I really cannot describe the affect seeing the torch pass by has had on me. What a fantastic day!"
Each torchbearer carries the torch for 300 meters and can choose to either run, walk or jog the distance. The next torchbearer was then ready and waiting to have their moment, with the torches required to 'kiss' in order to exchange the flames from one torch to another.
Following the torches arrival at the Clock Tower, a spectacular parade down Grand Parade and Lumley Avenue with a colourful
explosion of confetti and ticker-tape was put on to celebrate.
The torch left Skegness shortly after 1.15pm and made its way to Wainfleet and Boston. A fantastic send off in the form of flybys by a Dakota and a Typhoon fighter jet was given.
Tomorrow the torch will head to Nottingham, Derby and then on to Birmingham where it is slowly making its way to London for the start of the Games in just 30 days times.
The Olympics being held in our country is something that will never happen in our life time again and the nation are sure enough making the most of it.
